Here we go a wassailing!

If you have been keeping up you'd know that Christmas has hit my house hard. In fact, we've been listening to nothing but Christmas songs since Thanksgiving. Here are the top five Christmas songs in my house this year:

5. Good King Wenceslas (Only Mr. Hobbitfeet and I like this one)
4. Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer
3. Baby It's Cold Outside (Elf made this one a hit)
2. I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
1. Twelve Days of Christmas- John Denver & the Muppets (this is the only one we like- Bah-Dum-Bump-Bump-Bump)

Make it stop!

Arrgh! Yesterday I was too tired to put away the karaoke machine and have spent the day living in a nightclub. gIRL watched Dora with the mike on. Treating me to her screaming "backpack" through an amp. Then Boy came home and told cheesy jokes ala a very bad stand-up. I blame my work, the dedication made me too tired to clean up last night, and I grabbed a nap while Girl napped and didn't put it away then. Tonight we're hiding it until the next time I'm moved to have a karaoke night.

Sunday Funny Sunday...

We had a really nice Sunday. It would have been a perfect Sunday, if I hadn't had to go to work, but these are the sacrafices one makes right?
Anyhow we had a family karaoke night! Yea, I LOVE family karaoke night, though I think we need new cds. Boy killed with a late in the night rendition of Crocodile Rock that came out of nowhere (who knew that he knew Elton John- he's 9). Mr. Hobbitfeet made us suffer through a lot of songs mostly due to his propensity for choosing songs to which he only knew the chorus. Some of his bad choices included Don't stop 'til you gt enough, and Me and You and a Dog Named Boo. My tuneless rendition of Martika's Toy Soldiers had Boy asking if we could get a copy of the song for him. Seriously.
Girl's gotten much better at family karaoke, she doesn't put the mike in her mouth any more, but she continues to be baffled by all the extra verses in Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the sheer number of times she is expected to sing Row Row Row Your Boat before the music stops.
Here is a picture of Boy and Girl singing Jingle Bells:

And this is the very odd picture I found on my camera when I downloaded that other one:

The Next Partridge Family

Once again my family sunk to new lows of geekdom by having another family karaoke night. This time we were at my mom’s farm and my mother, sisters, and nephew all participated in addition to Mr. Hobbitfeet, the kids and me. I think that the "Overall Entertainer of the Night" award goes to my nephew, Big D, in his 13-year-old boy rendition of Pieces of Me by Ashley Simpson. So far, Boy’s Christmas present has been a huge hit, well almost. My almost-stepfather hated the whole thing and hid in the garage until the karaoke machine was stashed away. I guess he just doesn’t appreciate a good song.

In other news, my family and I are going back and forth on whether or not we should get a dog. Both Mr. Hobbitfeet and I prefer cats, but thanks to his biological father, Boy is highly allergic to them. So we wanted a smallish dog. The nearby shelter had lab/beagle puppies but all of them are potentially adopted. The other dog we picked out, though one of the smaller ones there, is still a little large for the kids, and so they were pretty scared of her. For the moment, I think we’re passing on the dog, but who know what we’ll do in the future.

Steps Toward Super-geekdom

I am the first to admit that I am a geek, and I know for a fact that my husband, Mr. Hobbitfeet, is a geek. When we were dating he was still playing D&D and other role playing games with his friends and he was 30. Also, I've seen his high school yearbook and he was in the A.V. club (though he insists it isn't true, I have proof. If I thought he wouldn't kill me for it, I'd post it. But if you know me, ask me sometime and I'll show you, it's funny.) I'm far off topic. Let me get back to what I was saying...

This weekend we achieved super-geek status with "family karaoke!" My eight-year-old son, Boy, wanted a karaoke machine for Christmas, and my mom was happy to oblige. My sisters both bought him karaoke CD's as well (this clearly runs in my family). So we all rocked out this Saturday. Even my two-year-old daughter got into the act piping in with Itsy-Bitsy Spider, Beyond the Seas, and Sesame Street between every performance.

I sang Walk Like an Egyptian, which was clearly a mistake because Boy is addicted to it. I burned it to a CD with other songs we sang and he was locked in his room all day Sunday and most of this morning playing it over and over again. I guess it's better than the incessant strains of Hillary Duff and Bowling for Soup that were coming from his room before. But even music I enjoy gets old after the fourth time in a row that you've heard it.

And if family karaoke isn't enough to secure our super-geek status, Mr. H. and I had a three hour long Scrabble tournament on Sunday afternoon. Several weeks ago I killed Mr. H. when I played My Best Game of Scrabble Ever. I should have been smart and walked away a winner but I wasn't and agreed to play with him again. Now Mr. H. is ultra-competitive and he must have sworn revenge for the spanking that I gave him before, because he was relentless. I lost two games and won one. But I will say the highlight of the game was when I got 30 points for the word fart. It really irks Mr. H. when I get a lot of points for stupid words.

So are you convinced that I am a super-geek? If nothing else secures it for me, the fact that I felt a need to write about it is enough. But honestly, I had fun. Even when Boy joined us for the last game of Scrabble and asked us to help him on every one of his turns.
