Snow Day!

With 4.7 inches and more falling, the kids and I are hanging at home. Mr. Hobbitfeet still had to go to work.

And don't forget Mr. Giles:

Crystal Tree Persuasion

Our backyard is gorgeous right now; like a fairy came and draped pretty crystals all over our forest. The pictures do not do it justice.

Slip Sliding Away (or An Exercise in Futility)

It has stopped freezing raining/sleeting/sort of snowing and started actually snowing, that is if you consider tiny ice pellets falling from the sky snow. It does look like snow though; so that's what we'll call it.
Mr. Hobbitfeet's work let out early to allow the workers a chance to actually make it home. See we're not in Chicago where hundreds of plows stand at the ready at the first sign of flakes to make it look like no snow ever hit the streets. There is one maybe two plows here that will keep the main roads relatively clear and get to the lesser roads once the storm goes away, which in this case is reportedly Thursday.

His big ole' car couldn't make it up our hill. So he is trying to clear off the ice with a shovel. I wish him good luck with that.

Less than four hours later:

Mr. H. would like me to say that I am wrong and it wasn't at all an exercise in futility because he got his car in the driveway.

I say if it helps him to believe that. . .

"And I'm a Genius, Genius..."

Last night, when I was driving home from work, my car wouldn't go above 45 mph without vibrating like a mo-fo. I about cried. Have you ever tried driving less than 45 in a 55 and trying to get someplace 30 miles away? It sucks. I made sure I didn't have a flat. No dash-lights were on, the rpm was normal.
Half-way home I stopped at a gas station and looked under the hood. All seemed good except there was a whole bunch of corrosion on the battery cables. I called Mr. H., who knows less than I do about cars. He in turn called Pelmo, who had me clean the battery with baking soda. No luck.
This morning I took it to my mechanic.
The problem...

Too much snow in my wheels. It will cost me $15

Update

I did go home early yesterday. I let all the people at work freak me out until I was afraid that I would be stuck in a snowbank. As anticipated, the snow stopped shortly after I arrived home. I am slightly grateful that I left early, however, because after I left my home county this morning most of my road hadn't been plowed. The snow was worn down where others had driven, but it was not plowed. I am glad I didn't have to navigate that in the dark when the tracks wouldn't have been so worn.
Also, despite Mr. Hobbitfeet's fears and warnings, didn't have the trouble getting up the hill that I did last year. I credit my new tires. Thanks, Pelmo.

View from My Window

This is what it looks like outside of my office window right now. All of this snow has fallen since I arrived at work this morning, and I also look out into a mostly enclosed courtyard.

My boss says I should go home, my husband says that I won't be able to get into my driveway as we live on a big ole' hill.

Every school has closed except the ones in my town. I'd just hate to scurry home only to discover that I was over estimating the snowfall. These are the dilemas one faces when living 30 miles away from where you work.

The news says the heaviest snowfall will be around noon, so I think I'll stick it out and see what it looks like in a bit.

Maybe I'll be camping at work today. At least there are showers here.

More pictures

I've been playing with my camera again. Mr. Hobbitfeet says it's my new toy and I think he hopes I'll get over it soon. Who knows if I will or not. Here is Boy Walking Mr. Giles:
