Welcome to My World . . .

Yesterday:
Me: Mr. HOBBITFEET, you should get us the Forgetting Sarah Marshall soundtrack. I think you'll like it, they re-did a bunch of songs you like in Hawaiian, plus it has the songs you liked from the movie.
Mr. H.: Nah, I'm to busy finding disco for myself. I've had Disco Inferno in my head all day, so I must be in a disco mood.
Me: Yeah or you've been burning things all day. Please just get it for me, I want it.
Mr. H.: Fine, whatever. I'll get the Finding Sandra Osbourne soundtrack, but I bet it's not any good.
Me: For-get-ting-Sar-ah-Mar-sh-all. It's not hard, we saw the movie last week.
Mr. H.: FINE!

Today:
Mr. H.: You watch movies more than me, so you should always tell me when you hear a good soundtrack.
Me: Ummm, I do. Why?
Mr. H.: Well, the Forgetting Sarah Marshall soundtrack was really good. Those remakes in Hawaiian were awesome. Plus it had those songs from the movie that I liked.
Me: O Rly?

*********************************

Me: I've got something for you.
Mr. H.: Thanks eagle man.
Me: I can't believe you just said that. I guarantee that you haven't seen that commercial in 10 years.
Mr. H.: Yeah but it was so good that I remember it.
Me: Hey, remember when everyone made fun of eagle MAN laying an egg so they made a new one with eagle woman. Only there was nothing super or womany about her except a pill box hat. Eagle man was better.
Mr. H.: No. Eagle woman was better because because it was so bad.
Me: (Pulls them up on Youtube)
Mr. H.: You're right. Eagle man is better.

You decide:

Swirly, Whirly, Jungle Pants

Boy (you know my other kid that hasn't made an appearance in my blog lately) goes back to school on Monday; Girl went back today. So, in honor of his only solo day off, Boy and I are spending the day in our pj's watching the Psych marathon and eating Thai food.
Psych is Boy's favorite show. He thinks Shawn Spencer is the coolest, funniest guy ever. Especially when he shouts out gibberish (such as the title of this blog).
Having fun. Talk to you later.

I Do Know that I Am A Geek

Everybody kept telling me I had to watch the new Battlestar Galactica. That I would love it. At first I didn't because I didn't have the Scifi Channel. After we got it, I didn't watch it because I believe that I watch too much damn t.v. But then I Netflixed it and loved it.
Now I am pathetically addicted and am fervently trying to watch all three seasons before the new season starts a week from Saturday. Whew that's A LOT of TV!
I also found out that Joss Whedon is going to have a new show next Fall. I've been whining about getting Joss back to TV since Buffy ended in 2003.
Also, I am bidding on a Christmas decoration from my childhood on Ebay. I have bid on things on Ebay in the past but there has never been anything that I haven't thought, "oh well," if I don't get it. Often I forget that I bid on anything until I get an email. This time, however, I am obsessing about it. I keep checking to see if I am still the top bidder, and my top bid is insane, Mr. Hobbitfeet would kill me if it got up that high. Luckily, it's relatively low, and if I can just get through the next couple of hours, I'll own it for my very own. I want it bad.

One more thing, instead of letting him watch TV, I made Boy practice his clarinet. Now he's torturing me with the worst noises ever. I think he's deliberately squeaking because he normally doesn't do that.

An Angry Rant about Fox

I've kind of been getting sick of my Netflix. I feel too much pressure to watch everything really fast and get it back in the mailbox so that I can get my money's worth. Anyhow before I ditch it, I am renting T.V. shows and it has made me hate, hate, hate the Fox network!
I already had a tiny hate on for Fox for canceling Firefly and then Drive, because Firefly was an incredible show and Drive was pretty good too.
But then I watched Undeclared and my hatred turned into a solid rock of anger! Fox, you suck!!!
Undeclared and Firefly were fantastic. The reason these shows failed was that Fox jumped them around, failed to market them well, and just generally set them up to fail. Drive was never even given a chance, it was canceled after four episodes.
Meanwhile Fox shows freaking American Idol three hundred times a week, puts on lame copycat shows like Meet Your New Mommy and So You Think You Can Dance, and still airs The Simpsons 15 years after it jumped the shark.
Pooh! I say boycott!

Super

I know that you're dying to hear how I spent Superbowl Sunday right?
Well we went grocery shopping at 8 a.m. to beat the rush and then hunkered down in our house trying to stay warm. I started to clean and organize Girl's room, but got discouraged halfway through because there just wasn't any storage room.
Then I watched the Monk Marathon on USA while I organized my pictures and started putting them in albums.
Mr. Hobbitfeet watched the game sort of and the kids played.
I did make chili dip, but that was as Superbowly as we got.

Books, Books, and Television

I haven't read a whole lot lately, but I did make a point of reading Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini because Boy says they are the best books he has ever read. He has read them both twice (each one is about the same length as Harry Potter book six) since he took Eragon out of his school library in November. Santa gave him his very own copies.
I don't think that the are the best books I have ever read, but I have read far more than Boy. They are kind of a kid's Lord of the Rings. We haven't seen the movie yet, but we will eventually.

TV has become difficult lately, mostly due to the fact that the local ABC affiliate isn't letting my cable provider carry it anymore. I do still get to watch the episodes of things I miss though because ABC has the full episodes online the next day. Nevertheless I still (mostly) only have one show that I watch per day. Here's my list an asterix means Mr. Hobbitfeet watches the show with me, because shows that Mr. H. will watch with me are the ones that make me happiest.

Sunday- Desperate Housewives (only I watch this on Mondays when Girl takes her nap-see above Re: ABC)
Monday- Heroes* ( Also, if I remember I watch How I Met Your Mother but I almost always forget)
Tuesday-Veronica Mars
Wednesday- Medium* & Lost* (Lost has been off for awhile, but when it comes back I'll watch it on Saturdays so Mr. H. can see it too.)
Thursday- The Office & Grey's Anatomy (which I watch Fridays while Girl is napping).

I have also been attempting to only watch these shows and nothing else, but I often find myself watching something insipid while I do laundry.

This Post's Got Punky-Power!

So Girl and I have been watching the first few episodes of Punky Brewster on Youtube. Why? If you haven't been paying attention here or here, I like my kids to like the things I used to like.
Girl loves this show, just like I did when I was in third grade. Also, very much like little me, she totally misses how thoroughly depressing this show actually is.
Like little me, Girl thinks Punky is awesome and funny and has a great sense of style. Since we started watching, I noticed that I have been subconsciously dressing my daughter in a very Punky-like fashion. I mean her shoes match, but I am do often dress her in loud colors with many layers (thankfully, she never wears brightly colored denim vests).
Anyhow back to the point, Punky Brewster is horribly depressing. It's the story about a little girl who's father left when she was a baby. She is then abandoned in a shopping center parking lot by her mom. She is living (suspiciously well-groomed for a homeless 7 year-old) in a vacant apartment when the world's grumpiest building manager discovers her and let's her stay with him in his very very messy apartment, and makes her eat TV dinners, stewed prunes and bran flakes. By the way, Girl is very adamant that Henry Warnimont reminds her of a certain guy, goes by the name Pelmo. Anyway throughout the episodes we've seen so far, Punky and Henry have had to fight to stay together because he is so old (60) and might croak any minute. She also has serious abandonment issues that have come up in almost every episode. I am not so sure that this show was actually meant for kids, because it really pushes the issue of how horrible the foster system is, and is by and large a really sad show. Granted we've only watched 8 episodes, but I think from what I remember it never stops.
Like I said though, Girl loves it. She misses most of the sad little abandon girl stuff and focuses on the awesome clothes, awesome bedroom, and general spunkiness of Punky. Though she was unhappy when Punky was taken away from Henry. She also asks where the mom is every episode.
Now I've got my doubts that any member of my family stuck around for this post, especially since they'd groan every time I wanted to watch Punky back in 1984.

"Holy Mother of God and All Her Wacky Nephews"

So my daughter has been sick, and I haven't really ventured out of my house except to go to work since we came home the day after Christmas. So what have I been doing (I mean besides nebulizing my daughter and posting old commercials of Wonder Woman)? I have been going to my utmost Whedork extremes.
Why is that? Well I parlayed my Christmas gift cards and cash and invested in the entire Firefly 'verse. The series, movie, and any day now the (comic) book that bridges the gap between the two (zooming it's way to me from Amazon). I even got around to watching the River Tam Sessions, so you know I am hardcore.
Not only that but I listened to all the commentaries and have been boring my Whedork of a husband with all I know. Now you know I'm a geek when I can out geek the geekiest geek that ever geeked.

Cartoon Ramblings

Can someone tell me why every cartoon says sticky tape instead of just tape? I've heard it on a least 3 maybe more different cartoons, Dora, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and Blue's Clues. Now my daughter always asks for sticky tape. I have also caught myself saying it too. I hate that.

Sick and Other Things...

I stayed home from work today because Girl is sick. I used to really like my pediatrician, but lately I've started to think of her as a sort of one trick pony. Certainly not every time my kids get sick can they have an ear infection, or sinusitis whatever that is. And I thought Doctors aren't supposed to prescribe antibiotics because of supergerms or whatever.

Anyhow, I hate taking Girl to the doctor because she is allergic to cillins (as in penicillin or ammoxocillin) and we have to go over that every time. This time was particularly bad because after waiting at Walgreen's for 20 minutes (which really sucks because the pharmacy is right by the toy aisle and Girl wants everything) the pharmacist told me my prescription was going to be $43.50.
"What," I scream, "We have ninja insurance we're only supposed to pay $15 for medicine!!"
"Well, your insurance isn't covering it." muttered the idiot with the bad facial hair
"Why," I scream (once again, I was being those people I hate) "They did last time."
"Well last time you had a medicaid card so they covered it."
"No, last time was like in January, when I know for a fact my insurance from Blue Cross/Blue Shield WHERE MY HUSBAND WORKS covered it. I know what our benefits are!" (I was really obnoxious, but you try sitting in a toy aisle with a sick, whiny 3 year old for 20 minutes and see how calm you are)
"No, no last time you had Zithromax and this is ceflecor (or something)"
"Well I don't want your crappy expensive medicine, come on Girl we're going back to the doctor"
"Why, " she sniffled "So she can make me feewuh bedder?"
Bottom line my doctor was scoffing at the stupid pharmacist's idea that she had ever prescribed Zithromax, but asked what was covered and we got that instead (after another 15 mins. in the toy aisle). Also, Mr. H. says that as long as we were getting a generic, it was covered so the idiot was truly an idiot, I wasn't just imagining it.

In other news, I had decided to cut down on how much TV I watch so I thought I'd do some crafts. I made some ticking curtains for my kitchen like I saw in Martha Stewart Living, and a nice witch that was a combo of this one, and one my Grandma had when I was little. I did learn one thing though and that is you can still watch TV while crafting and so it didn't really help at all.

These are the curtains, they are the same color, but the other picture didn't turn out so hot.

See I used the nylon witch's face, and her basic idea but I used the old witch's body frame and pose (though not her scale)
I think La Sirena is Juliet, Meander is Cleopatra, and I am Scarlett O'Hara.

In Which I Got Some Sleep...

Well all my worrying was for not. I guess I can officially say I am a grown up because I got through the night without Mr. Hobbitfeet and didn't have a total wussy meltdown. It was touch and go there for awhile though, during Lost I got a bit scared and closed and locked every window and pulled all the curtains. Even that wasn't enough because of our large patio doors that don't have any covering. I actually did get scared once by the meter reader who looked in through those doors, and truth be told that is what I am the most afraid of. Looking up and seeing someone watching me through the windows/doors/etc.
I think most of it was due to a traumatic stalker experience while growing up. There were times when I was young when I would be sleeping or doing a number of things and bam! There would be someone looking in at me (though I wasn't the one being stalked). It is an odd sensation and one I am not itching to repeat. Hence the general fear of uncovered windows at night.
Also, many scary things involve looking up to find someone watching you. Think of all the scary babysitting stories you've ever heard. Then in Hush (a Buffy Episode) Olivia looks out the window and there's one of the Gentleman looking in at her.
Anyhow when the freakout got too much for me I went to my room where I could watch the rest of Lost and be hidden behind my blinds and not look out into my woods waiting for the Gentlemen to peek at me. Then at bedtime I took some Tylenol PM and slept great. The difficulty was that Mr. H. normally wakes me up. I didn't think it would be a problem because most of the time I am awake before he comes in, so I didn't set my alarm. Unfortunately, I think all the noise he makes in the morning is what wakes me, because I overslept this morning. So thanks to all of those who were worried for me and called. I made it through the night.

P.S. Did you watch Lost. I am getting to the point where I am going to hurl my damn T.V. through the window. If they find any more hatches on that stupid island. . . .Well I don't know what I'll do. I hate the show, but I need to know what's going on, so I can't stop watching it which makes me even more irritated. Here it is May, you know the season finale is coming up any day now and they still haven't addressed cliff hangers from last year's season finale. ARRRRHHH!

Not Lovin' the Love Monkey

I watched Love Monkey tonight for the first time and I don't care for it. I like Tom Cavanagh but there are others in the cast I could do without and I think the premise is lame. Though I must say (as you can see by the time stamp) I am not giving it much of a chance.

Since Buffy went off the air, I have had no show to call my own. Meander will tell me that Veronica Mars is the show that will replace Buffy, but sorry Meander it doesn't even touch the writing on Buffy. There are shows that I don't mind but nothing that inspires the "can't do anything on Tuesday night at 7" the way that Buffy did.

Maybe the Wonder Woman Movie will save me.

Discovery Channel Junkie

Lately a majority of the TV that I enjoy watch is on the Discovery Channel:

1. Cash Cab-People hail a cab and end up on a gameshow. It's great especially when they're so dumb they get kicked out before their destination.

2. Mythbusters- The things they make to bust the myths are so cool that I wish I could be an engineer.

3. It Takes a Thief- Cute boys break into materialistic peoples' houses to show them how stupid and unsafe they are. Then they get mad because the people who said that it was easy to steal their stuff, stole their stuff.

I know you probably think I'm lame, but I like them.
